On Thursday 9th November 2017, shipmates from Huntingdon & District Branch attended a flag-raising service for Remembrance Day. This was the first of four Remembrance Day services that the Branch would attend.
Shipmate Bill Small paraded the Branch Standard, shipmates Karl Webb and Martin Girvan joined VIPs, Councillors, Service personnel from RAF Wyton, and members of the community.
A with previous years, the Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion also took part and paid their respects to the fallen.
As the RBL flag was raised, Lewis Bourne from RAF Wyton’s Voluntary Band, sounded the Last Post.
Standard Bearers dipped Standards as the Last Post was sounded.
After a two-minute silence, speeches were given about the involvement of the Armed Forces from Cambridgeshire during the First and Second World Wars.
On completion of the service, all attendees were invited back to the Civic Suite for light refreshments.
