Affiliation of Huntingdon Sea Cadets with the RNA and RBL

On Tuesday 12th May 2015, members from Huntingdon Branches of the Royal Naval Association (RNA) and the Royal British Legion (RBL) presented certificates of affiliation with T.S. Cromwell, the Huntingdon Branch of the Sea Cadet Corps. Earlier in the year, shipmate Karl Webb, Huntingdon & District Branch Secretary, held a meeting with the Commanding Officer of T.S. Cromwell, PO Henry Rayner, to discuss forging closer ties between the Huntingdon Branch of the RNA and the Sea Cadet Corps.

During that meeting, PO Henry Rayner said that he had also been speaking with Judith Armstrong, Secretary of Huntingdon RBL, about an affiliation with the cadets and that they would be presenting a certificate in the near future. This prompted discussions between the RNA and RBL and it was decided to hold a combined ceremony at the SCC unit. The Branch Chairman (Bill Small for the RNA, and Gordon Peacock for the RBL) presented their respective certificates to the Sea Cadets during their weekly parade night.

Also representing the Huntingdon Branches of the RBL and RNA were Shaun Atkin, RBL Standard Bearer, and Shipmate Pete Aston, RNA Branch Treasurer. An additional presentation from Huntingdon RNA was that of a cheque for £300; this donation was presented to the Sea Cadets in order to sponsor a cadet for a week’s training onboard one of the Sea Cadet Corps’ Sail Training ships.

The affiliation of T.S. Cromwell with the local branches of the RNA and RBL will benefit those wishing to join the Armed Forces, or those who simply want to know more about life in any of our uniformed services. In turn, members of the RNA and RBL will be able to pass on their experience and knowledge of life in the armed forces and to mentor the youth within the local community.
