Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth, 2016

On Monday 14th March 2016, Huntingdonshire District Council hosted the annual Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth event at the Council HQ. Shipmate Karl Webb joined the Mayor of Huntingdon as he made his way to the Coundil HQ.

On arrival, guests were invited to gather round the flag pole while the Chair of Huntingdonshire District Councul, Cllr Peter Bucknell, addressed those in attendance,

Speeches were made by Cllr Bucknall and the Deputy Lieutenant for Cambridge, but also by Huntingdon & District Branch shipmate, Victor Lucas, who was carrying out one of his last duties as the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire. Shipmate, the Reverend Andrew Milton, was also part of the official ceremony, he led prayers and Blessed the Commonwealth Flag.

The Armed Forces Associations are proud to take part in local civic ceremonies and as usual had representatives from the RNA, RBL and RAF. Local Military Associations also attended with their Branch Standards which were brought to the dip as the Commonwealth Flag was hoisted in front of the Castle Hill House.

On completion of the ceremony, all attendees were invited back to the Civic Suite for light refreshments. A small ceremony, but the local and district council are always proud to mark these events, BZ to all attendees.
