Huntingdon Branch attend the St George’s Day Flag Raising Ceremony
On Wednesday 23rd April 2014, shipmate Karl Webb, Hon. Secretary Huntingdon & District Branch, represented the RNA at the annual flag raising ceremony marking St George’s Day in Huntingdon.

The Chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, civic guests and members representing the local community, took their place for the raising of the flag of St George outside of the council offices.

To start the ceremony, Barbara Boddington, in her last duty as Chairman of HDC, invited the Revd. Cllr David Underwood (who is also Mayor of Godmanchester) to bless the flag.

With the assistance of Revd Underwood, and Derek Bristow, Cllr Boddington attached, then raised the flag with all guests looking on.

Col Derek Bristow, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, then gave a speech detailing Huntingdon’s history with famous Englishmen, such as Oliver Cromwell and Robin Hood. Derek also stated that this could be one of his last duties as Deputy Lord Lieutenant as he is due to retire soon.

Derek thanked Barbara for her dedication to the people of Huntingdonshire during her time as Chairman.

With the flag flying in front of the council offices, all guests were invited to the Civic Suite for refreshments. In addition, a presentation was made to Barbara Boddington of a ‘St John’s Award by members of St John’s Ambulance staff, of whom Barbara has supported during her time in office.
