Huntingdon & District Branch at Morrisons’ Cambourne store, March 2015

Shipmates from Huntingdon & District Branch held their first charity collection of 2015 at Morrisons in Cambourne on Saturday 7th March 2015.

With a blue sky and warm weather predicted, it was a good start for shipmates Karl Webb (Hon. Secretary) and Peter Aston (Hon. Treasurer) as they setup a small display at the entrance to the main store.

In order to keep the access points clear, the full range of PR material could not be displayed but there was enough to show what the Royal Naval Association does, what Huntingdon & District Branch members get up to, and what other Branches of the RNA are available to residents and visitors around the local area (e.g. St Neots & District, Peterborough, Cambridge and March Branches).

With the stall in place, S/Ms Pete Aston and Karl Webb prepared for the day (note, S/M Karl Webb is wearing the dark glasses due to an eye infection and not for any other reason — as S/M Maureen Ridley thought when visiting the stall).

It was a long but rewarding day chatting to local residents, everyone was extremely generous, the children loved the RNA hats (as did some parents); pens, fridge magnets, stickers, and key-rings also proved popular and of course, carrying the RNA branding, will help promote the Association around Cambridgeshire. Visitors included a number of former serving personnel, or close family relatives, these were given membership forms and told of their nearest Branch, hopefully new members will come forward in due course.

Shipmate Maureen Ridley from St Neots & District Branch visited the stall in the morning, and again in the afternoon. National Council Member (No 6 Area), and Chairman of St Neots Branch, shipmate Keith Ridley, also stopped by to see how things were going.

The first charity collection of the year has been a great success, shipmates from Huntingdon & District Branch would like to thank the staff of Morrisons, residents and visitors from the Cambourne area, and all those who donated or spent some time learning about the RNA and the importance of supporting our Armed Forces and all veterans associations.
