Huntingdon & District Branch: Remembrance Day 2014

On Sunday 9th November 2014, shipmates from Huntingdon & District Branch took part in Remembrance Services in Cambridgeshire — and overseas.

On Sunday morning, shipmates Bill Small, Pete Aston, Geoff Twigden, Ben Dear, and Graham Murray (along with Ron Murray, RBL – ex Fleet Air Arm) formed up with RBL and RAFA personnel in Huntingdon ready to march to Huntingdon’s War Memorial for the annual service of Remembrance.

With this year being the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, it was even more important that those who have lost their lives in the service of their country are remembered. In Huntingdon, Armed Forces personnel from RAF Wyton, civic dignitaries, members of the armed forces Associations, community associations and members of the public gathered at the War Memorial for the annual service, which as usual was carried out by the Reverend Andrew Milton (who is also the Huntingdon & District Branch Chaplain).

Finally, whilst on honeymoon in Tenerife, Huntingdon & District Branch members, shipmates Karl Webb, Hilary Meers-Webb, and Debbie Brooker (this was a combined honeymoon and holiday with a group of friends) and former service personnel, Dougie Gallimore (Army), Brian Luckham (RAF) and Christine Luckham (QARANC) held a two minutes’ Silence in the Colonial Bar whilst the Service of Remembrance was broadcast live on the British bar’s TV screens.

In the evening, a Service of Remembrance was held at the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Godmanchester. This service was attended by shipmates Bill Small (Parading the Branch Standard), Pete Aston, and Geoff Twigden (as Escorts), Nino Crean, Graham and Becky Murray, and also Ron Murray from the RBL.

Huntingdon & District Branch members are always proud to represent the RNA on Remembrance Sunday, this was the first time that four Services were attended in the same day. We Will Remember Them.
