Rhondda Branch: Dedication Service for their new Branch Standard

On Sunday 18th September, Rhondda Branch RNA, laid up their old Standard and Dedicated their new one.

The service took place in St Andrews Church Tonypandy. The service was led by Fr Philip Leyshon (Branch Chaplain) who was assisted by yhe Rev’d Jonathon Wright, Assistant Curate, Benefice of Whitchurch. Rev’d Jonathon is former RN Submariner and has earned his Green beret with the Royal Marines.

We were joined by the Newly elected National Chairman of the RNA, Shipmate Keith Ridley, who gave the Exhortation and Kohima prayer, Major J. Charles, who was deputising for the Lord Lieutenant of the County, and Shipmates from Merthyr Tydfil, Cardiff, Newport and Llanelli. We were also joined by CPO Wayne Sutton of the RN Recruiting office in Cardiff, the Coxswain of University Royal Naval Unit Wales, Rhondda Sea cadet Corps and the congregation of St Andrews Church.

The Dedication was preceded by a short march which passed the local War Memorial where the parade executed an eyes left in tribute to all the fallen.

The parade was supervised by Shipmate Mick Kieran who kept us on our toes.

The Last Post was played by Shipmate Dennis Morgan Chairman of Llanelli Branch RNA.

Area 7 Standard was paraded by Shipmate Peter Killick (Area Standard Bearer) also of Llanelli Branch.

The service was followed by a celebration in the NUM Club Tonypandy.

Special thanks to Shipmates Cath John, Adrienne Hodder for the catering. Winnie who made the cake and Christine who made the sticky buns and cream cakes (60 in total). Branches cannot survive without their Associate members and friends.
