St Neots & District Branch: Huntingdon Riverside Gala

On Saturday 8th June 2013, members of the St Neots & District Branch attended the Huntingdon Riverside Gala. The Hon. Secretary of Huntingdon & District Branch, Karl Webb, also joined the team as they continued in their annual campaign of fundraising and spreading the word of the Royal Naval Association.

The stall is setup in two part, one allows for visitors to see the activities of the Branch with plenty of photographs and RN related magazines. The other half comprises of a ‘TomCola’ stall and raffle tickets for prizes.

What is TomCola? This game is a winner (every time), you pick a number from a bag, place it on the Bingo board, and IF you have a corresponding number, you win a can of coke. If you are unfortunate enough not to get a winning number (there are six ‘missing’ numbers), then you get your money back…you can’t lose!

The day was overcast, but dry. Plenty of people came out to see all the stalls; with the RNA and local Sea Cadets having stalls, the Navy has Recruitment and Retirement being promoted.

The new Mayor of Huntingdon, Councillor Bill Hensley, went round every stall to thank all those people making the Gala a successful event.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight provided a Spitfire (Photo Reconnaissance version – Click here for more details of this magnificent aircraft) for a short display over the field.

After the display, it was business as usual, visitors continued to look around the stalls, and of course to find time for a quick game of TomCola.

All in all, a good day for a little fund raising and promoting the Royal Naval Association.
